New Jerusalem Baptist Church of Cincinnati, OH was organized on December 6, 1926, and has been an important fixture of faith-centered, civic-minded leadership in the community for nearly 93 years. Rev. Damon Lynch, Jr., the current Pastor Emeritus, was called to New Jerusalem in 1970 and he has led humbly since that time and longer than any other pastor in the history of the church. Under the tenure of Rev. Lynch New Jerusalem has grown and expanded in membership and ministerial reach, constructing additions to its current location twice since 1993 and joining in a partnership to build and operate a 43-unit senior-citizen residential facility.

The church has been a pioneer in establishing award-winning youth programs such as SIMBA, a young men’s rite of passage initiative. New Jerusalem continues to be a spiritual hub for expository preaching and teaching of a liberation gospel message traditionally seen in the Black Church and additional growth in membership, outreach, and programming. Our church is blessed to be served by several very active ministries including, the Mission Board, Soup Kitchen Ministry, Celebrate Recovery Ministry, Health and Wellness Ministry, a Karate Club, Music Ministry, five artistic ministries along with several other ministries to serve the needs of our members and our community. New Jerusalem continues to live up to its mission to follow the example of our Lord and Savior.

About the Senior Pastor:

The currently available role is for the Senior Pastor of the New Jerusalem Baptist Church. Our description of the role of pastor is to be responsible for the spiritual leadership of the church, including but not limited to teaching and preaching the gospel, officiating at special services, as well as representing the church in the community

The Senior Pastor's Responsibilities Include:

Prepares and delivers sermons.
Properly leads the congregation in observing the church ordinances of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
Conducts worship that enables people to hear the word of God and participate in personal and corporate devotion to establish a stronger relationship with God.

Administration

Oversees all areas of the congregation’s ministry in consultation with the Deacons, Trustees, and other appropriate leaders.
Supports the Constitution and Bylaws of the New Jerusalem Baptist Church.
Supports and provides input for the evaluation of church employees.
Builds a sense of teamwork among church staff and Committee Chairs.
Enables Deacons, Church Officers, and Committee Chairs to better perform their duties through training and support.
Works with the Trustees and other necessary leaders to see that the church's facilities are functional and in good repair.
Leads the church in planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating the total mission of the church.
Exhibits excellent administrative and communication skills.
Further advances theological knowledge with continued education training through the American Baptist Association.

Outreach

Leads the church in an effective evangelism program and in the caring ministry for those in the church as well as community outreach.
Provides training opportunities to the congregation for outreach and evangelism.
Works with the staff and necessary ministries to ensure the Church is provided with opportunities to be involved in hands-on service opportunities within and beyond the Church.
Supports and encourages educational and life enrichment programs for our youth and young adults.
Supports and encourages programs geared towards our senior citizens' enrichment and life maintenance.
Establish relationships with area ministerial alliance entities such as the Baptist Ministers Conference and Metropolitan Religious Coalition (MARCC) to enhance the role of NJBC in the city.

Senior Pastoral Care

Provides pastoral care in conjunction with other staff, committees, and deacons through visitations, counseling, and prayer.
Makes appropriate referrals when necessary and quickly responds to crisis situations that arise in the congregation.
Provides guidance and support to the youth.

Working Conditions

The full-time position of Senior Pastor requires great flexibility in hours available for work, including evenings and weekends.
The Senior Pastor will establish and maintain regular office hours for accessibility to members of the congregation and for regular communication with members of the church staff.

Education & Experience

An earned Bachelor’s degree in any field from an accredited institution is required
An earned Master’s Seminary degree from an accredited institution is required.
A Master of Divinity is preferred.
Licensed and Ordained
At least five years of pastoral experience. If the pastoral experience is not from a senior/lead pastor position then the five years of pastoral experience must be from serving with the same senior pastor for that period of time.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
