Sweet Hope Missionary Baptist Church, located in Waynesboro, Mississippi, is seeking a full-time Visionary Pastor to preach and lead the congregation. This role involves extending evangelical and missionary activities within and beyond the local community. The selected candidate will interact with church members to advance their spiritual development. The ideal applicant should possess a strong understanding of the church's mission, values, and strategies and be capable of leading and supporting the church's officers and staff.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Administers worship services, including preparing and delivering sermons based on foundational biblical principles.
- Plans, teaches and leads weekly Bible Study, Sunday School, and Prayer Meetings.
- Advises deacons, trustees, and ministry leaders in the performance of their assigned responsibilities.
- Conducts the Sacraments of Communion and Baptism as needed.
- Officiates special ceremonies such as weddings, baby dedications, and funerals.
- Develops, implements, and assesses the effectiveness of ongoing programs such as Christian Education, Evangelism, Discipleship, Missions, and related ministries.
- Provides pastoral care and effective spiritual support to the church membership, including spiritual counseling and regular visits (to homes, hospitals, nursing homes, etc.), bereavement care, and memorial services.
- Oversees training and spiritual development for the entire congregation, especially the youth and senior members.
- Serves as chief administrator in executing the policies and regulations duly approved by the congregation.
- Moderates regular church business meetings and oversees the implementation of the church's mission and purpose.
- Supports Local, District, State, and National Baptist Conventions. Coordinates with local associations and denominational leaders to facilitate mutual interest, concerns, and civic matters.
Qualifications:
- Licensed and ordained in the Baptist Church.
- At least 35-65 years of age. Prefers a pastor to be married.
- Three or more years of pastoral experience in church ministry and pastoral care preferred.
- Accredited Seminary is desirable.
- Ability to communicate clearly with diverse groups within and outside the church, both orally and through the written word.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- The pastor should live within a reasonable radius or commute of the church as determined by the church.
