Position Title: Interim Worship Leader
Reports To: Senior Pastor
Location: North Little Rock, AR and Conway, AR
Job Overview
The Worship Leader will lead and oversee the worship ministry at New Hope Baptist Church, guiding both the praise team and choir in creating dynamic, spiritually rich, and culturally relevant worship experiences. The individual will play a pivotal role in curating the music, facilitating rehearsals, and ensuring that the worship ministry reflects the vibrant traditions of the Black church. The Worship Leader will collaborate closely with the Senior Pastor to craft services that engage the congregation, foster a spirit of praise, and honor God through music and song.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, inspire, and shepherd the praise team and choir, creating a unified, passionate, and spiritually focused group.
Music Selection & Planning
Curate music that blends traditional gospel, contemporary praise, and hymns to engage the congregation in a multifaceted worship experience.
Select songs that reflect the cultural, historical, and theological richness of the Black church, ensuring that music complements the themes of the sermon.
Collaborate with the Director of Operations, Music Director and Senior Pastor to create a seamless worship experience, aligning the musical selections with the message of the day.
Scheduling & Coordination
Communicate rehearsals, service schedules, and special events to team members well in advance.
Ensure that the choir, praise team, and musicians are properly equipped and prepared for each service.
Rehearsal Planning & Execution
Lead rehearsals with a focus on musical excellence, spiritual preparation, and fostering a collaborative spirit.
Prepare worship materials, such as sheet music and lyrics, ensuring that all team members are fully prepared.
Special Events & Services
Plan and lead worship for special services such as revivals, anniversaries, church picnics, conferences, and other community events.
Partner with MD and lead worship for significant church celebrations like Easter, Christmas, and Black History Month, ensuring the music honors these special occasions.
Administrative Duties
Manage team schedules, rehearsal times, and service plans to ensure smooth operations.
Contribute to the worship and arts ministry's vision, helping to shape its future direction and growth within the church.
Qualifications
A strong, personal commitment to Christ and a passion for worship and the Black church tradition.
A degree in music, worship ministry, or a related field (preferred), or significant experience in worship leadership.
Proven experience leading and directing worship teams, choirs, or other musical ministries, preferably in a Black church context.
Expertise in musical theory, vocal techniques, and instrumental skills (piano, organ, guitar, etc.).
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Experience working with diverse musical styles, including gospel, contemporary, traditional hymns, and choir music.
Ability to connect with people of all ages and backgrounds, fostering an inclusive and welcoming worship environment.
Work Environment
This position will require attendance at both weekday rehearsals and worship services.
Flexibility in scheduling is important, particularly during church events, holidays, and seasons of heightened worship activity.
