Friendship Baptist Church has been a beacon of light in Columbus, GA, for 132 years. The Pastoral Search Committee is prayerfully seeking a Senior Pastor, called by God, to minister, counsel, lead, and further the spiritual growth of this congregation.
We are searching for a Senior Pastor with the following gifts, skills, and qualifications:
Spiritual Qualifications: The pastor is the spiritual head of the church and is responsible to the Lord, the Deacons, and the congregation for proclaiming the gospel and teaching the Bible.
- A born-again baptized believer that loves the Lord. Fulfill the scriptural qualifications of a leader as laid out in I Timothy 3 and Titus 1.
- Be proficient in Biblical Theology and have the ability to convey biblical truth to all ages of the congregation.
Duties and Responsibilities shall include but are not limited to the following:
- Responsible for the pulpit ministry, the ordinances as described in the bylaws as they pertain to the pastor. The commitment to carry out the Great Commission as described in Matthew 28:16-20
- Plan/conduct worship services, prepare and deliver sermons at least three Sundays per month in season and out of season, reprove, rebuke, and extort with great patience and instruction - giving the flock the thoughts of God revealed on the pages of Holy Scripture while leading them to holiness.
- Develop the vision for the church and its members.
- Devote some hours, 2-3 days per week in the office for the purpose of counseling members as needed, sermon preparations, meditation in prayer, and other purposes.
- Support the church ministries.
- Provide Biblical counseling.
- Conduct funerals unless another ordained minister is requested by the family.
- Conduct wedding ceremonies unless another ordained minister is requested.
- Lead the church in planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating all church programs and ministries in conjunction with the ministries themselves.
- Cooperate with the local association, state convention, and the National Baptist Convention in matters of mutual interest.
- Act as the moderator at church business meetings.
- Work with deacons, trustees, church officers, and ministries as they perform their duties and responsibilities.
- Work toward creating an inviting environment in the congregation by working with all ministries and the congregation.
- Coordinate with the Minister of Music to integrate the appropriate music into the services.
- Be engaged in the community to help bring souls to Christ and continue the church's growth.
- Perform all other duties necessary for compliance with the Church By-Laws and any other governing documents.
Minimum Education, Training and/or Experience:
- A Minimum Bachelor's Degree in religious studies (preferably a Seminary Degree) is required. I prefer a Master's degree in religious studies or a Master's of Divinity from an accredited institution. A master’s degree in theology is a plus.
- At least six (6) years of Pastoral experience
- Experience in Supervising of staff
Certification & Licenses:
- Proof of licensure and ordination is a requirement.
- Certification in family and marital counseling is a plus.
- Certification in Biblical Counseling
- Basic computer skills Employment tenure:
- Initial contract for one year
- Annual performance will be evaluated
