Job Title: Minister of Music
Reports To: Pastor and Chairman of the Trustee Ministry
Status: Full-time
SCOPE:
The incumbent is responsible for the planning and development of the church's music ministry. This is a ministry staff position.
CHARACTER AND NATURE OF POSITION:
- The incumbent is the “expert” in their area of responsibility and, as such, must assume overall responsibility for all choirs, praise and worship ensembles, instrumentalists, and related areas.
- The incumbent must be a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, a person of character and integrity who views this position as a calling from God. Their life must exemplify the purpose, philosophy, and doctrine of the Baptist Church.
- The incumbent must master the various aspects of their area of expertise and desire to ensure that all involved in the worship and music ministry realize their maximum potential through effective leadership and training.
- The incumbent would minister in such a way that people feel encouraged and appreciated in their ministry.
KNOW HOW:
This position requires a multi-talented musician with experience playing the piano, organ, and keyboard. The incumbent should have practical experience planning worship and participating in and leading worship services. They should have a shepherding heart for those participating in worship services and be flexible enough to work with all age groups.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
The incumbent will report to the Pastor and Chairman of the Trustee Ministry. They have primary responsibility for recommending budgetary expenditures of the music ministry. They propose the annual budget by detailing expected monetary requirements for the following year to the Trustee Ministry.
PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS
1. Meets weekly with the Pastor to coordinate worship services.
- In consultation with the Pastor, plans, selects, and programs music for regular and special worship services.
- Coordinates with the Pastor the general and specific types of service music and other special participation to be used in order that the worship services may be effective and coherent and that soloists, praise and worship teams, and instrumentalists may be adequately prepared for such services.
- Seeks to select and use music that brings glory to God, is spiritually correct, and ministers to the congregation.
2. Conduct weekly rehearsals with choirs and band or as needed as determined by the Minister of Music.
3. Supervises, develops, and trains the assistants and volunteers for their area of ministry.
4. Oversees and assures maintenance and care of all equipment for their area of ministry.
5. Evaluate and suggest equipment needs for their area of ministry.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Identifies, recruits, and trains gifted individuals and encourages those people as they become involved in the music ministry.
2. Develops and leads youth to coordinate and conduct a youth & young adult music ministry.
3. Prepares and submits annual budget requests and recommendations to the Trustee Ministry.
4. Coordinates the care, maintenance and inventory of all music and equipment with the Trustee Ministry.
5. Other duties as outlined by the Church.

- Teaching abilities to instruct and guide musicians in music theory and performance
