MOUNT ZION
The name Mount Zion was given to us by our founding fathers in 1892. Mount Zion is the biblical name of a mountain in Jerusalem, Israel. Many passages of scripture refer to Mount Zion, the most noted arguably being the 48th Psalm. The Mount of Zion is the tallest mountain in Israel. On it is King David's tomb and on it, Jesus instituted the Lord's Supper in the upper room.
It is believed to be the place where the disciples were assembled on the day of Pentecost, thus the place where the preaching of the gospel began.
A hill in Jerusalem, site of the royal palace of David and his successors, the place of the temple -- the center of Hebrew government, worship and natural life, the heavenly city of God.
Our church name suggests refuge for fleeing souls and fellowship with the master. May God will, and may we always aspire to forever be this.
