PASTORAL JOB POSITION
Ebenezer Third Baptist Church is a diverse, multigenerational and biblically based congregation located in Austin, Texas. As we approach our 150th year, we are prayerfully seeking a full-time Senior Pastor to lead and serve our growing community.
Ebenezer is a historically Black Baptist Church, which was established in 1875, with a current membership roll of approximately 500. It is located near downtown Austin, a vibrant city of more than 975,000 residents. Many of Ebenezer’s members commute from suburban cities and areas around Austin.
Ebenezer seeks a Senior Pastor to serve our growing congregation and greater community as a servant in Christ’s name. The Senior Pastor will feed and lead through the ministries of preaching and teaching God’s Word and administering the Sacraments-baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
Qualifications
- Ordained Baptist minister with at least 5 years of senior pastoral ministry experience
- Graduate theological degree from an accredited educational institution
- Devout personal faith in Christ in the Baptist tradition
Knowledge, Skills, and Character
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Bible
- Inspirational preacher and teacher who will foster a spirit of unity and growth within the congregation, by understanding and ministering to the diverse needs and concerns of the expanding Ebenezer community
- Proven leader at developing and implementing strategies for fiscal responsibility, Church operations, numerical growth and spiritual development
- Strong integrity and religious conviction exemplary of a spiritual leader of the Church
- Excellent communicator
Responsibilities
The Senior Pastor is a highly visible position that requires flexibility and professional ethics. The Senior Pastor is required to maintain a presence in the office and/or be accessible to meet with members of the congregation, prospects, the Church staff and Church Council as needed. Work hours may include evenings, holidays and weekends. Specifically, the Senior Pastor is responsible for:
- Providing spiritual, pastoral, outreach, administrative and servant leadership to the greater congregation. This includes interpreting Biblical scripture; providing counsel; and visiting and comforting the sick, shut-in and bereaved
- Preaching at weekly worship services and delivering prepared sermons that capture the essence of the Biblical version
- Officiating at special services (baptisms, weddings, funerals, infant dedications, etc.)
- Supporting and supervising Church staff; collaborating with Church music leaders; serving as Church Council leader; coordinating and cooperating with the Deacons and Trustees of the Church; and ensuring that Church facilities are well-maintained and functioning
- Serving as the ex-officio member of the East Austin Development Cooperation; Board Officer of the Ebenezer Child Development Center; and overseeing other non-profit ventures associated with Ebenezer Third Baptist Church
- Representing the congregation within the larger community; coordinating numerous ministries; and developing new ways the church can support, engage and grow
Compensation
This is a full-time position with a competitive salary and benefits.
