for the Position of Pastor
Overview
St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church is a multi-generational, multi-ethnic congregation located in the heart of Dayton OH , just ten minutes from the downtown area. St. Luke has been a pillar in the Greater Dayton community for nearly 94 years, having only three pastors in its illustrious history. St. Luke has historically held membership in the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. (NBCUSA, Inc.), the Ohio Baptist General Convention (OBGC), and the Northwestern Ohio Missionary Baptist Association (NOMBA). St. Luke is a warm, family-friendly church that places a high priority on biblical teaching, outreach ministries, and education and training opportunities for young people. St. Luke will continue to build upon its firm spiritual foundation of spiritfilled worship, evangelism, and Christian education as it prepares for the next pastor whom God will give according to His own heart.
St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church prayerfully seeks a full-time Pastor who is called by God into the ministry, equipped to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and effective in Biblical teaching. Under the authority of God, the candidate will lead a congregation that is committed to fulfilling the Great Commission of the New Testament church as recorded in Matthew 28:19-20. The candidate should demonstrate commitment to God-centered, spirit-filled worship and evangelistic outreach beyond the walls of the church. The candidate must possess godly values, spiritual leadership qualities, and character traits both personally and professionally. The candidate should demonstrate spiritual maturity, moral integrity, and faithfulness in executing the duties described herein.
Position Description
- Serve as the primary servant-leader for the church, leading all the pulpit and worship ministries of the church
- Serve as de facto member of church administration, church ministries, and committees
- Provide observance of the ordinances of Baptism and the Lord's Supper
- Strengthen and maintain oversight of all church programs for all ages and audiences
- Encourage the congregation in attracting, developing, and retaining members by cultivating interest and the spirit of fellowship
- Provide educational and growth experiences in faith and leadership training for the congregation
- Care for people and lead the church membership to care for people in the church and the community
- Be a visionary who can use innovative, cross-generational approaches to reach and encourage young people, young adults with families, as well as middle-aged and senior members
- Oversee church discipline and manage conflict in the church; seek to reconcile relationships and promote Christian unity
Education and Experience
- A college degree earned from an accredited institution preferred
- A degree in Divinity or seminary training is preferred
- Measurable fiscal and budgetary experience and proven history of stewardship
- Excellence in bible teaching, sermon preparation, and preaching in Baptist doctrine and beliefs
- Effective communication, interpersonal, administration, and leadership skills
- Effective in spiritual counseling, pastoral care, and visitation
- 5+ years of pastoral experience. Previous Senior Pastor experience preferred
Salary Range
Salary will be commensurable with experience in the range of $55-70K.
