Mt. Olive Baptist Church has been a cornerstone of the Coraopolis, PA (13 miles from Pittsburgh, PA) community for close to 130 years. We have been dedicated to fostering a loving and inclusive environment where individuals and families can grow in their faith. Our Church is deeply rooted in the values of worship, fellowship and service to our congregation and the broader community. Our Pastor, sent to us by God, will be guided by the biblical principles set forth in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.
Pastoral Responsibilities:
The Pastor should be able to develop a shared vision for the spiritual and physical growth and development of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. The Pastor shall perform all the scriptural duties of his office and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and the governing of the church Bi-Laws. The Pastor shall represent our Church in National, State and local Conventions and Associations.
Our pastor will be expected to perform the following duties as defined by Biblical scriptures:
- Biblical preaching and teaching (2 Timothy 4:2)
- Shepherding the Mt. Olive Baptist Church flock (1 Peter 5:2-3)
- Providing spiritual counseling (James 5:14)
- Leading and overseeing staff (1 Timothy 3:1-7)
- Prayer and intercession (1 Timothy 2:1-2)
- Visitation and outreach (Matthew 25:35-40)
- Leading in ordinances and administering sacraments (Matthew 28:19-20)
- Mentoring and discipleship (2 Timothy 2:2,1 Corinthians 11:1, Matthew 28:19)
- Set the vision for the ministry (Proverbs 29:18)
- Participate in establishing the priorities of the Church (1 Corinthians 12:14)
- Practical ministry administration (Acts 20:28)
Spiritual Leadership:
Provide biblically grounded and inspiring sermons that address the spiritual needs of the congregation. Lead worship services, fostering an atmosphere of reverence, joy, and community. Offer pastoral care and support individuals and families in times of joy and challenge. Responsible for teaching/leading Bible studies.
Member Engagement:
Cultivate a sense of community within the church through small groups, fellowship events, and outreach programs. Develop and implement strategies to attract and integrate new members into the church family. Collaborate with church leaders to identify and address the spiritual and emotional needs of the congregation.
Leadership and Administration:
Work closely with the church leadership team to develop and implement the overall vision and mission of the church. Provide guidance and oversight to staff, volunteers, and ministry leaders. Collaborate with administrative staff to ensure the smooth operation of church programs and activities.
Outreach and Missions:
Develop and implement outreach programs to serve the local community and beyond. Encourage and support mission initiatives to make a positive impact globally.
In addition to the above duties, our pastor must have the following qualifications:
- Must be a licensed and ordained Baptist Minister who demonstrates a strong understanding of the Baptist Doctrine and Theology.
- Pastoral experience (preferred) in a Baptist Church (preferred) or an Associate Minister.
- Possess a degree from an accredited seminary (preferred)
- Demonstrate community service in the community in which they currently reside.
- Be a visionary with sound judgment and discernment.
- Be an effective communicator (orally and written).
- Be growth oriented, committed to continuing education and development.
- Demonstrate financial awareness and responsibility.
- Work closely with the Deacons and Trustees in their spiritual training and development
- Oversee Church discipline and manage conflict while promoting unity
- Demonstrate ability to lead the entire congregation lovingly and compassionately from youth to seniors.
- Demonstrate the ability to provide care and counseling to church members and assist them in crisis situations
