for the Position of Senior Pastor
Church History/Profile
Mount Vernon Community Missionary Baptist Church is located near the heart of the city of Indianapolis, IN. We have served the Haughville Community and the city faithfully for ninety- six years. We have had pastors who have had an overwhelming impact of Christendom at large. Recently, God has saw fit to call our previous pastor to another pastorate; and, it is under this premise that we are seeking God’s will for who HE will send to shepherd us onward.
Position Summary
With God’s help and guidance, we are in search of an ordained Baptist minister who has thorough knowledge of all bible and Baptist doctrine and beliefs. The pastoral candidate must have a vision to continue the growth of our church, and have a passion for developing a mission that supports the spiritual relationship of the church and our members. The Pastor is responsible for the overall leadership of the day-to-day operations of the church services, ministry activities, and pastoral care of the congregation. Have a spiritual gift appropriate for this position, such as pastoral-ship, leadership, and teaching. A heart to honor God above all and to lead people, especially young adults, into deeper worship and knowledge of Him.
Duties and Responsibilities
- The pastor is to lead the church to engage in a fellowship of worship, witness, education ministry, and application.
- The pastor shall preach the Gospel, administer the ordinances, watch over the membership, promote the spiritual interest of the church, organize and develop its strength for the best possible service.
- The pastor is expected to preach, counsel, perform marriage ceremonies, visit the sick; conduct funerals; represent the church at meetings of convention; local, state, and national conventions; and, be available for the community projects.
- The pastor has the responsibility of organizing the work of the church and keeping the organization running smoothly. If the church has a staff, the pastor is required to assemble the personnel and direct the work thereof.
- The pastor is the interpreter of the Word of God and must have a broad knowledge of church policy, especially in the areas of discipline and doctrine. Lead Mount Vernon members in an effective program of evangelism and outreach, missions, and ministry (locally and nationally). Plan, Schedule, and promote the observance of the ordinances of the Lord’s Supper and Baptism. Plan, schedule, and promote Bible study opportunities, such as revivals to promote spiritual growth.
Minimum Requirements
- Proof of a licensed and ordained Baptist minister or the ability to be duly ordained in accordance with the Baptist church.
- Five years of pastoral experience including leadership. administrative, organizational, and managerial skills.
- The ability to work in a team setting, demonstrating patience, be able to assign doable tasks, meet schedules, and be creative and energetic in the development of effective ministries.
- Demonstrate an ability to work effectively with others.
- Must be able to articulate a vision for the church that emphasizes spiritual growth and development.
- Effective leadership ability in developing programs designed to integrate the participation of children, youth, young adults, and seniors.
Compensation and Work Hours
- This salary will be determined and discussed with the final three candidates, only.
- A minimum of (20) hours per week in the church and separately available to members for emergencies, to include visiting the sick, funerals, and representing the church in the community.
- Travel assistance to National Baptist Convention.
- Provide assistance in advance for educational ministry classes and training.

All applicants must submit the following to the Pastoral Search Committee:
- Letter of interest (Cover Letter).
- Current resume that included a summary of relevant ministry, professional, and educational experience.
- Copy of ministerial license and certificate of Ordination.
- Link to 2 recent sermons within the last six months.
- Verification of any degrees from accredited educational institutions.
- Three letters of recommendation (2 clergy, 1 professional).
Final candidates must consent to:
- A full background check, including criminal history and a credit check, will be conducted by an outside entity for complete confidentiality.
- Teach two Sunday School Classes.
- Preach two Sunday Morning Services.
- Facilitate two Bible Study Classes (In/person or virtually).
