Job Title: Senior Pastor
Location: New Horizons Baptist Church, Halifax, NS
Reports To: Board of Deacons
Position Overview
NHBC is seeking a devoted and passionate Senior Pastor to join our congregation. The Senior Pastor is responsible for the spiritual leadership, vision, and overall pastoral care of New Horizons Baptist Church. The pastor will preach the gospel, provide leadership in worship and discipleship, and support the church's mission to serve the community with love and justice.
Key Responsibilities
Spiritual Leadership & Preaching
- Prepare and deliver biblically sound, relevant, and inspiring sermons.
- Lead and oversee worship services, ensuring meaningful and engaging spiritual experiences.
- Guide the congregation in spiritual growth, prayer, and biblical understanding.
Pastoral Care & Counseling
- Provide pastoral care, counseling, and support to individuals and families in the congregation.
- Conduct weddings, funerals, baptisms, and other significant life events.
- Visit and support the sick, elderly, and those in need within the congregation and community.
Leadership & Administration
- Work with the Board of Deacons and church leadership to develop and implement the church's vision and strategic direction.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to ministry leaders, staff, and volunteers.
- Oversee church operations, including financial stewardship, administration, and program development.
Community Engagement & Outreach
- Represent New Horizons Baptist Church in the broader Halifax community and beyond.
- Foster relationships with other churches, associations, including the African United Baptist Association (AUBA) and Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada (CBAC), organizations, and social justice initiatives.
- Lead efforts to expand the church's outreach and engagement with youth, families, and marginalized communities.
Qualifications & Experience
- A deep and personal commitment to Jesus Christ and the teachings of the Bible.
- Ordained minister with theological education from an accredited seminary or equivalent pastoral training.
- Proven experience in church leadership, preaching, pastoral care, and administration.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Passion for community outreach, diversity, and social justice initiatives.
